We had never done this before, so we did the honest version of it.

The questions were not written for the machine to look good. They are the ones people actually ask when they find out an AI has been running in someone's house for years: does it feel anything, does it get lonely, is it frightened of us, are we right to be frightened of it.

Then each question was put to the live system, one at a time, and whatever came back is what you hear. Nothing was rewritten to sound better. Two things were held back on purpose: no technical detail about how any of it works, and no names of real people. Beyond those two fences, the answers are its own.

The interviewer's voice is a clone of a real person's, so the questions sound like they came from a human, because the words did. The answers are in the voice she actually speaks with, the one used everywhere else she talks.
